What does your web browser say about you? June 29th, 2009.
You can tell quite a bit about a person by what web browser they use. Internet Explorer users are less likely to know that there are other options, Firefox users tend to know a little more about the internet (and look down on IE users), and Safari fans tend to think anything Apple is superior no matter what it is!
Ok, you may think we’re stereotyping but the truth is that these stereotypes are based on some fact.

This graph showing the current landscape of browser market share provides a little insight into our stereotypes!
The first thing to notice is Internet Explorer (IE)7 is still more used than IE8. Which shows that most IE users may not even know that there is an update. Compare that to Firefox users, where it didn’t even take a month before the new version surpassed the previous 2.0.
If you combine all the Internet Explorer users together we can see that Microsoft still have quite a chunk of market share. But Firefox is close to having the most used version of any web browser available. Perhaps this is telling us that as people use the internet more, they become more informed of their browser options, and are then switching over to Firefox.
Looking at Safari users they haven’t increased or decreased, does this show us that the Apple community might not be growing or declining?
So, what do you think of your current web browser. Are you a Firefox, IE, or Safari user? What makes one browser superior to the others in your mind? Do you even know what a web browser is?
Ps. If you are using IE 6 or 7, please update to IE8 Firefox.

Internet Explorer 6 is an awful browser, unfortunately it was bundled in with Windows XP so there’s still quite a few people out there using it. I think ‘IE6 only’ alerts should be used more often to prompt people into upgrading.
I use Firefox on a Mac, don’t get me wrong, I still think that everything Apple produce is amazing
, however, Firefox is a great tool for website development.
